Ethiopian-American Celebration
of Motherhood
Join Ethiopian-American women as they celebrate the birth of a new child. The intimate gathering of women will include Ethiopian-Americans Mekbib Gebertsadik (entrepreneur) and Meseret Desta (award-winning artists), who are expecting their first child. During the gathering, women will learn about the customs, traditions, music and food Ethiopians use to celebrate the coming of a new baby in their lives.
Unlike in the Ethiopian tradition, guests are encouraged to honor this family with a gift before the birth of their child. The free event, sponsored by Empowered Women International, includes light traditional refreshments and takes place at Convergence, 1801 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302; Sunday, March 7 from 3p to 5p. Call 571.366.7724.
