In our most read Snippets in recent times, we asked readers if they would confirm Elena Kagan as a U.S. Supreme Court justice if they were a U.S. Senator. Almost the majority of readers, 47% percent said “No,” 41% said, “Yes,” and 11 percent are “not sure.” This was also the largest participation we have ever gotten in our polls, however, this was the first time no reader left an additional comment.

This Snippet’s question: If the U.S. Senate confirms Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Court will consist of six Catholics and three Jews though nearly one in every two Americans is a Protestant. Do you think President Obama should have nominated a Protestant to the Court?

The Harlem Renaissance:

As Gay as it was Black

"The Harlem Renaissance: As Gay as it was Black" exhibit continues through Wednesday, June 30 at Florida Atlantic University in Baton Rouge, FL. The title comes scholar Henry Louis Gates, who once said that the Harlem Renaissance was "…surely as gay as it was black, not that it was exclusively either of these."

The exhibit chronicles the leading gay participants in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s including writers such as Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston; singers Ethel Waters, Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith; dancer Josephine Baker; and comedian Jackie "Moms" Mabley.

Senegalese Struggle With Sex-Related Issues

“It’s a question of survival. Life is hard. If I didn’t have these women, I’d be struggling," said Moussa, a 31-year-old dreadlocked drum player who has been "dating" female tourists since 2003.

Shock at Senegal Gay Jail Terms

A judge added three years to a five-year sentence saying the men were also members of a criminal group. Most of the men belonged to an association set up to fight HIV and AIDS.

How to Design a Beautiful Space

By Susan Featherstone-Schemm

As long as you know what you like and do not like, you can discover and even create your own style. During our mini-workshop at Build/Renovate Your Own Castle IV Sherry Burton-Ways and I will explain the difference between interior design and interior decorating.

Then, after taking you on a tour of some of today’s most popular design styles, we will awaken the inner decorator in you. Finally, we will guide you in creating your decorating priority list, help you define your style, and provide you some questions to ask yourself and your designer.

So, join us for an interactive mini-workshop Saturday, June 19 (10a to 2p) at the Honfleur Gallery. We look forward to discovering the decorator in you.
