To some
people, a pharmacist’s job is to hand them the right medication.
To some pharmacists, the only reason to remember a customer’s name is
to make sure the correct prescription is given to the right
person. However, at some locally-owned pharmacies, customer
service means much more than the brief contact that one may receive
from a corporate owned pharmacy. These, “village caretakers,”
tend to provide our communities with personal services.
Dr. Bob Gaines, co-owner of KayCee Pharmacy in District Heights,
Maryland, also uses this sorting and packaging process, and a special
packaging for the blind. Gaines explained, “Our blind patients
are able to tell which medicines they are to take during the day by the
number of holes we punch on their medical package. For example,
one hole means to take the pill in the morning and two holes mean at
noon.” Gaines, who is a boat owner and avid fisherman, added,
“while the sorting procedure is time-consuming, the patient’s safety is
our first priority.”
Being involved with their customers is a priority at KayCee
Drugs. It is refreshing to know that they are willing to go
beyond the call of duty for those in our community. |
