Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich signed into law a bill that renames BWI airport the Baltimore Washington, Thurgood Marshall Airport.  He signed the bill in front of a statue of Marshall that stands in front of the Maryland State House in Lawyers' Mall.

Thurgood Marshall represented and won more cases before the United States Supreme Court than any other American.   Biographers Michael Davis and Hunter Clark note that, "none of his (Marshall's) 98 majority decisions were ever reversed by the Supreme Court."

The bill has to pass one minor hurdle before Maryland joins Atlanta which renamed its airport to honor the late trailblazing Atlanta mayor Maynard Jackson and Jackson, MS in its effort to honor slain human rights leader Medgar Evers.  In Chicago, the O’Hare complex includes a major road named for Bessie Coleman, the first African-American female aviator.
