In
a north side high rise condominium, off Chicago's glittery Michigan
Avenue, and near its bustling Loop and sparkling Lake Michigan
shoreline, author J.L. King favors his den. "That is where
I like to relax, watch TV, have my books and artworks, and can just be
JL," he said in a masculine voice. In reference to East Lakeview,
the White gay-identified neighborhood that is also on the Windy City's
north side, he continued, "No, I don't live up in Boystown."
However,
in some ways, King, who is bisexual, fits the stereotype of a
gay man. He doesn't like sports, loves the arts, and considers
himself a good cook. "I have a
housekeeper," he says during our
telephone interview, "but I keep a well-organized home."
