Plans to bring in a new Target store to anchor Forest Village Park Mall in Prince George's County, MD are underway. The official groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the mall on Monday, August 18. Also, joining Port Of Harlem advertisers Gallery Africa and Karibu Books in the mall will be several new restaurants and retailers. Prince George's Councilman Sam Dean, who will speak at the event, said, "It is pleasing to see the private sector stepping in to revitalize commercial communities without the need of the government weighing in to foot the bill. In this case, Petrie Ventures (the mall's new owner) saw an opportunity to purchase Forest Village Mall and replace the vacated K-Mart with a new Target store, and do an additional face-lifting to the whole mall. At some point, we all realize that it takes more than the taxes from a bedroom community to defray the expenditures of running a government." Back to top |

and Grace (Bulfinch Press, $35 ) is the first book of its kind - - the
first to present the unique spirit and creativity of African-American home
design and decoration. It celebrates the distinctive style of notable homeowners
such as hip-hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons and his wife Kimora Lee,
photographer Gordon Parks, Congressman Charles Rangel and wife Alma,
choreographer George Faison and his partner Tad Schnugg and
others who use cultural elements and icons to create gorgeous home environments.
With easily accessible text, Michael Henry Adams places each individual home within a larger historical and cultural context. His insightful accounts of the residences are paired with more than one hundred fifty original photographs by Mick Hales, taken specifically for the pages of Style and Grace. |
